Description

One of the highlights of Shanghai Expo 2010, a complex free form structure cladded with stainless steel panels. The entire pavilion was designed to be able to be dismantled after the Expo and shipped to the United Arab Emirates where it would be reconstructed.

Design Scope of Work

  • Design and engineering of cladding sub-structure, panel, and fixing details
  • Design of waterproofing and weather barrier under the feature cladding
  • Generation of fabrication drawings
  • Site supervision for installation

Design Value Delivered

  • Application of parametric modelling techniques to facilitate an accelerated design development and a highly efficient process for generating fabrication drawings for the brackets and stainless steel panels.
  • Panels and brackets designed to be fabricated and installed within a 3 month construction cycle.
  • Integration of construction model with CAD/CAM system to improve accuracy and quality control during project execution. Installation of the cladding took less than 1 month.
  • Unique connection design allows the feature cladding to be able to be easily dismantled and relocated to UAE after the Shanghai Expo.
